Telling It Like It Is In Los Angeles on June 11th 2025

It is early and I am angry. For those of you who don’t know my name is Dylan Thomas. I’m a proud gay trans man I live in Los Angeles. Last night at 8:07 pm we got the emergency text about the curfew downtown at 8:07. They said in the text that the curfew started at 8:00 pm. Now if you’re busy living your life like I was, I didn’t get it until then. I’m lucky I was where I was but let’s think about the people who weren’t, because I just saw a video of a woman who was trying to walk home and she’s telling police officers “I’m trying to get to my apartment.”  And there’s a line a row of armed officers, she’s unarmed, at night, alone a woman trying to get home and they shot her.

Even if they say it’s non-lethal that’s traumatizing. It’s traumatizing for her so let’s also think of the perimeter that they had curfew. What about the homeless people there? Who cared about them right? Because everyone’s supposed to be off of the streets or did they do what they did to the people in Echo Park in 2020 and sweep them away? Did they disappear them? Because the media won’t report on that. It’s just.. we’re going to go off this morning right because that’s just how it is, sometimes you have to.

Then I see a video about Uber’s C-suite sitting there, publicly kissing up to Trump about this “Big Beautiful Bill”. Fuck that and them. I deleted my account and encourage you to consider that as well. Right? Because we have to go with where we’re powerful. It’s like you know Michelle Obama said “when they go low we go high.” No. We’re going to treat these people, these businesses, everyone accordingly. When they fuck up there’s consequence for their action and my money is now better spent elsewhere.

These people think they’re untouchable. All of these politicians do not serve our country. It feels like the entire system is working against us. I have no faith in the Democratic Party and I never did in the Republican Party. Do I feel like the mayor and the governor here, because I’m a Los Angeles resident, do I feel like they have our best interest at heart? No. I never have. When you’re in a system that’s actively working against you, you’re going to be angry, channel it into productive things today however makes sense for your life. That’s what I’ll be doing.

If you’re not enraged at this point in history you are part of the problem. If you haven’t used your voice I would encourage you to do so in a way that moves the needle because it feels like they’re coming at everybody from all sides. We’re one of the biggest cities in this country, Los Angeles, for them to say a curfew starts at a time and then to send the mass text alert seven minutes later, someone needs to be held accountable for that. Will they? I don’t know, but I know if I didn’t perform well in my job I would be fired. However, if I was working in a system that was set up against people that’d be a strategy move, so just consider that.

I wish this was a little bit more of a positive post, but I think you all come to me for the realness. I think that’s why I exist, so keep telling it like it is. I hope that you can manage your day well and I will see you later. – Dylan Thomas Cotter
