I am a descendant of Irish and Italian immigrants. I live in Los Angeles. Right now I am completely disgusted on the raids that are happening towards our immigrant community. People are being taken from their families, their businesses, their lives. They don’t deserve that kind of treatment. It’s inhumane. I had been out of town celebrating my birthday had not been watching the news. I caught myself up, and I am embarrassed of this country and I have been for a long time.
As a trans person, to witness anyone experience injustice – I cannot and will not be silent.
I’m here because my family immigrated here on both sides. Now that wasn’t easy for them, but they got to stay here. Why are these families being treated different, we know and it’s not right. Being on the good side of history, why wouldn’t you want to be on the good side of history? If you’re participating in those raids you are a bad person. You are on the bad side of history and your bloodline will live with that karma indefinitely. It’s an ominous feeling when you see the videos of downtown Los Angeles with the people who had to flee their businesses because yesterday they were being raided. This country is a disgrace.
I know it’s important that you see a white person saying “I’m a descendant of an immigrant” and that none of this is just. It’s not right and I struggle with the how part. How do we change this and how do we change this fast because I know change never happens fast and that is terrifying when it’s this stuff going on, but it needs to stop. I hear the sirens outside now, and I have to think where are they going? Who will they be hurting and taking away from their families and how can they sleep at night knowing that they’re on the bad side of history? This country is a disgrace and this city is a disgrace for not stopping it.
Our country is better with immigrants. Our country is better with people of color. Our country is better when it is different and no one is illegal on stolen land. And how often does that need to be said until change is enacted? I wouldn’t be here if my family on both sides didn’t immigrate and the fact that immigrants are being disappeared from their families is wrong. If you’re participating in the raids you’re bringing shame to your family indefinitely. Whether you believe it or not we all see it, and it’s shameful. If you’re a white person, and you’re doing that know that your family immigrated here and you’re a hypocrite and a villain.
Apathy is going to be the downfall of society. Like I always said to be apathetic to others suffering it’s quite narcissistic. The people who are on the right side of history we see through it, and we won’t be quiet. With that said, if you’re in Los Angeles I hope that you stay safe. There’s a lot of people that know what’s going on now is wrong. I’m embarrassed of this country and I’m sickened by the people who enable the disappearing of immigrants. It’s evil. I always end my videos by saying “I hope you’re doing good I’ll and see you later” and, I know we’re all not doing great, because America was never great, but I do in my heart hope that you’re managing well, but this is not business as usual.
There is nothing normal about immigrants being disappeared by the government.
